John Smith is an Agricultural Engineer and has been a University of Nebraska faculty member since 1981. His current position is Professor, Biological Systems Engineering Department, and he is located at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center near Scottsbluff. His research and extension programs focus on tillage, planting, and harvesting systems for dry edible beans and sugarbeets. Specific dry edible bean projects have included combine operation for reduced seed damage, harvest loss, direct harvest systems, and tillage systems to reduce soil compaction. Sugarbeet projects include development of an electronic planter test stand, planter evaluation, field emergence, and harvest systems.
