Buckskin
Buckskin
is a moderately early maturing, tall variety with good yield stability
in the Nebraska Panhandle (especially west of Highway 71) and surrounding
dryland production areas. It is susceptible to stem rust and growers
should consider replacing Buckskin with Goodstreak, which is a new
standard height wheat variety. Buckskin has fair winterhardiness,
good test weight patterns, long coleoptile, good tillering ability,
moderately strong straw, and good milling/baking qualities. Buckskin
was developed by Nebraska and the USDA-ARS. Noncomplementary varieties
include: Agate, Bennet, Culver, Jules, Larned, Newton, Sage, Scout
66, TAM 105, and Trego.
