Harry
Harry
is late in maturity, about 2 - 3 days later than Arapahoe and Wesley.
Harry is a semi-dwarf wheat cultivar with a short coleoptile similar
to Arapahoe. It is shorter than Arapahoe with a mature height of
32 inches. Harry has moderate straw strength similar to Arapahoe,
but less than Wesley. The winterhardiness of Harry is good to very
good, similar to Abilene and comparable to other winter wheat cultivars
adapted and commonly grown in Nebraska. Harry has been a top-yielding
wheat across western Nebraska. Harry is moderately resistant to
stem and leaf rust. It is susceptible to wheat soilborne mosaic
virus and wheat streak mosaic virus but may contain a low level
of tolerance to barley yellow dwarf virus. Harry was developed by
Nebraska and the USDA-ARS. Noncomplementary varieties include: Arapahoe,
Arrowsmith, Brule, Culver, Empire, Niobrara, Redland, Vista, and
Wahoo.
