Hatcher
Hatcher
is an awned, white-chaffed, medium maturity, semidwarf hard red
winter wheat developed at Colorado State University. It has medium
maturity and is short in stature. Hatcher is moderately susceptible
to stem rust, moderately susceptible to leaf rust, resistant to
stripe rust, and susceptible to both wheat streak mosaic virus and
barley yellow dwarf virus. It is heterogeneous for resistance to
the Great Plains biotype of Hessian fly, susceptible to greenbug
and resistant to the original North American Biotype of Russian
wheat aphid. Although Hatcher has performed well in University of Nebraska irrigated variety trials, it has moderate straw strength that may result in lodging problems in irrigated production where yield potential exceeds 100 bushels per acre. In addition, it may produce more straw residue than desired. Hatcher is noncomplementary to Yumar.
